Have you ever…
- Tried to start a meditation or mindfulness practice and quit?
- Tried to learn meditation from an app and given up?
- Felt more stressed by mindfulness/meditation instead of less stressed?
- Said or thought “Meditation just doesn’t work for me”?
- But are still interested in some kind of mindfulness or mind/body connection practice?
This group is for…
- Anyone who is interested in learning more about mindfulness and meditation
- Anyone who has tried meditation and hated it (bonus points if you downloaded an app that you haven’t opened in months)
- Anyone who has struggled to make meditation and mindfulness a habit
- Anyone who is intimidated by going to a meditation center or meditating for long stretches
- Anyone who wants to deepen their current mindfulness and meditation practice with different skills.
Mindfulness and meditation are more than just popular trends; they are well-researched, proven methods for improving overall well-being. While the concepts might not be hard to understand, they can be significantly harder to put into a daily, habitual practice. This group is designed to help bridge that gap by teaching people skills that will help regulate emotions, decrease stress, and navigate daily challenges.
This two hour group will meet once a week for 6 weeks and each week will focus on a different theme such as mind/body connection, present moment awareness, psychological flexibility, emotional regulation, and meditation skills.
This program aims to equip you with diverse mindfulness skills that you can integrate into your daily life. We employ an experiential learning approach, guiding participants through direct practices designed to foster presence, awareness, and non-judgmental acceptance. Homework or “home practice” will be a key component to ensure skills move from the group setting to real-world application. Homework will be a light time commitment intended to serve as a foundation for your continued personal development, should you continue to build upon it.
The foundation of this group is built on experiential learning. Albert Einstein said “Information is not knowledge. The only source of knowledge is experience.” This principle holds true for mindfulness and meditation! While reading a book on the subject provides information, it’s vastly different—and far more powerful—to actually experience the practices firsthand. We offer a guided setting with professionals who can help you navigate the practices, process your experiences, and provide tailored feedback specific to your needs. Simply discussing new skills is insufficient; the real transformation happens when we move beyond discussion and step into a potentially new way of being.
This group is facilitated by ETG staff therapist, Elizabeth Baum, LPC-MHSP. She took a less conventional, meandering way to find her own mindfulness practice and is passionate about making that kind of path accessible and easier for others to find. She will be assisted by ETG interns Corey Wayne and Charity Allen both of whom have extensive training and experience in more traditional meditation practices.
