Common Issues

Why Come to Therapy?

Anxiety is much more common than many of us realize. However, the symptoms can be debilitating and can lead to physical stress, hinder daily activities, disrupt relationships, and significantly impact your quality of life. Coming to therapy for anxiety can help you to develop tools, process emotions from the past, manage symptoms, and gain support so that you live a more peaceful and fulfilling life.

When you’re stuck in depression, it can be hard to see a way out. Although it can feel like your days are on repeat, depression is not something that has to go on forever. Your therapist can help you take practical steps to feel better and support you in processing the challenging and emotionally draining feelings that are frequent visitors during a season of depression.

Often the most challenging moments in our lives come from experiencing the loss of a loved one. Because of the complexity of grief we often feel lost or isolated in the process. It’s never easy to navigate life after a significant loss, however having a therapist on your side to actively listen and help you explore your feelings can have a profound impact on being able to make sense of this often overwhelming experience and start the process of re-engaging with life again.

We all want to show up in a way that feels authentic. Of course, it feels good to be seen and valued in the ways that we present to the world, or how we simply choose to express ourselves. For many of us, however, there can also be parts of our identities that society marginalizes and doesn’t always make an effort to understand or welcome. As we seek better understanding of our feelings and ever-changing values around our identities, it can be beneficial to have empathetic support and guidance to help you sort through the complexities that naturally come to the surface.

Life Transitions

Starting a job, moving to a new city, having a baby or experiencing a significant loss or health issue can be difficult. Consequently, unexpected or unwanted challenges during these times of life transition can leave us feeling overwhelmed and stressed out. Therapy provides a space where you can reflect on your values, remember your strengths and stay focused on the bigger picture so that you can more easily navigate the ebbs and flows of life transitions.

Relationship Issues

Relationship issues can be complex, often leading to feelings of disconnection and frustration. Therapy provides a non-judgmental space to explore concerns, identify patterns, and develop effective communication and coping skills. Gain a deeper understanding of your attachment style, learn to communicate more effectively, and build stronger bonds and intimacy in your relationships!

Religious Trauma / Deconstruction

Examining and reevaluating beliefs and values related to religion can feel like a complicated process.  Therapy can provide a supportive and non-judgmental space for individuals to question the teachings or practices of a particular religion, work through trauma or disillusionment related to religious institutions or authority figures, and explore developing a new sense of self and purpose.

Teen & Young Adult Therapy

We provide therapeutic support to adolescents and young adults from age 14 and up. This time in our lives can be especially challenging as we are often faced with academic, social, and personal pressures and expectations, all while building our own identity. Therapy can provide a safe and objective space for teens and young adults to explore their thoughts and emotions, build self-esteem and work through a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, and identity development.

Trauma / PTSD

Trauma is a distressing experience that can leave individuals feeling overwhelmed and vulnerable. Its effects can be long-lasting, including symptoms such as anxiety, depression, nightmares, flashbacks, and avoidance behaviors. Therapy for trauma can help individuals process their experiences, learn coping strategies, and develop resilience to better manage symptoms and begin the process of healing.

Specialized Treatment Offerings

At ETG, a therapist is more than just a person to talk to.
Our specialized training background allows us to provide individualized care.

Our therapists have extensive experience in their respective areas of specialty. All clinical services at Experience Therapy Group are rooted in the values of: collaboration, client-centeredness, creativity, and competence.

Brainspotting therapy is a type of therapy that uses the visual field and the body’s sensations to access and process trauma, negative emotions, and limiting beliefs. It is an innovative and effective approach to trauma resolution, developed by David Grand, PhD. in 2003.
Couples counseling with Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a highly effective approach that focuses on strengthening the emotional bond between partners, resolving conflicts, and promoting secure and lasting connections. By enhancing communication and understanding within the relationship, EFT helps couples build a more secure and fulfilling partnership.

EMDR therapy, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a groundbreaking therapy modality that utilizes bilateral stimulation to help individuals process traumatic memories and heal from past experiences that weigh us down. Additionally, it is an evidence-based therapy that has been shown to be effective in treating a range of mental health concerns: PTSD, phobias, and relationship-based wounding to name a few.

Expressive Arts Therapy is a dynamic and creative approach that integrates various experiential interventions, such as painting, music, movement, sandtray, & psychodrama to foster self-expression, healing, and personal growth. It provides a non-judgmental, supportive, and uniquely creative space for individuals to explore and communicate their emotions, thoughts, and experiences in ways that aren’t always easily accessed when we are limited to thoughts and words.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy is a psychotherapeutic approach that helps individuals to access and work with different parts of their psyche. Ultimately, IFS promotes self-awareness, healing, and personal growth. It is based on the belief that every person has a complex inner system of sub-personalities or “parts” that can be identified, understood, and integrated to improve mental health and wellbeing.

Mindfulness based therapy practices can help you cultivate awareness and acceptance of thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations to help reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress. Also, mindfulness helps increase the capacity to emotionally regulate and respond with more clarity in day to day life.

Somatic Therapy is a body-centered approach that recognizes the interconnection between the mind, body, and emotions. Through therapeutic exercises & techniques, somatic therapy helps individuals release stored trauma and stress, improve their ability to regulate their nervous system, and promotes healing, self-awareness, and overall well-being. Our therapists utilize somatic therapy practices and interventions within most of our other specialized treatment offerings.

Yoga informed therapy is an integrative therapy approach that combines traditional talk therapy with yoga practices such as postures, breathwork, philosophies and meditation to promote emotional and physical healing. It can help individuals connect with their bodies, release tension, and increase awareness of their thoughts and emotions.
